I am SO excited to share this “Modern Monet” inspired editorial shoot! I’m in such awe of Amy’s gallery! This stellar group of vendors knocked it out of the park with this one!
Inspiration
For this shoot, I was really inspired to blend modern lines with organic shapes. Mae’s Ridge is filled with beautiful modern elements so I had to find a way to work that into my signature soft and romantic look. This BBJ linen reminded me of the soft brushstrokes that are so iconic to impressionism, so it was a real score in my book. Bonus! It also mixed gold, silver, and bronze threads for a modern feel.
Florals
Flower selection was really hard! I am such a flower lover, that I wanted all of them!! I opted to choose flowers that told a muted, but impactful color story. Right out of the gate, I loved clematis because of its beautiful color and whimsical shape. I also knew I wanted to incorporate lots of feathery elements to create dimension and depth within the arrangements. The purple bunny tails were a fun little add that I couldn’t help but include!
Creating the ceremony piece was such a learning point for me as a floral designer. Sometimes, I think it’s harder to create “messy” and “organic” shapes than it is to make clean crisp lines. To help with this, I opted to forage most of the greenery from brush found near my house.
Models
I was really excited to feature two real couples for this shoot! Both are great friends of mine and neither had formal, high-quality wedding photos like these, so I was super excited to be able to give them something that complemented and represented them, while also matching the caliber of this shoot.
Saul’s dusty rose velvet jacket was such a fun piece and highlighted his and Kassie’s relationship so well. Kassie’s dress was perfect for her casual and blooming personality!
I opted to put Michael in a more formal suit, while Tammy wore a beautiful, off-the-shoulder A-line gown. Perfectly sophisticated and romantic!
Keeping on theme with the pastel tones, the moment I saw the dusty blue gown worn by Morgan, I knew it would fit perfectly for this shoot! I loved that it was easy to move around in and Amy loved getting to play in the wild landscaping of Mae’s Ridge for these shots.
Allayah’s gown was a showstopper and I am still in disbelief that Melange was kind enough to let us use it! This gown is loaded with gorgeous beading, glittery fabrics, and 3-D applique. Allayah was such a trooper in the HEAVY gown on what I think was the hottest Texas day! Check out our Instagram Stories for some behind the scenes fun on how we helped cool Allayah down between shots!
